Lifted Research Group

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Lifted Research Group (L-R-G) is a uniquely different fashion brand that stands out from the rest; popular amongst skater, hip-hop and underground culture, L-R-G  are noted for their unique and unusual approach towards fashion design, with a growing number of people all over the world falling in love with the brand and its products.

They were listed as number 5 in Entrepreneur Magazine’s Hot 500 Fastest Growing Business in America, with an initial $200K investment in 1999 turning over 5 million dollars in 2002, and over $150 million dollars in 2006!
The quality of their merchandise is second to none, with a wide variety of designs and styles to cater to every need, ranging from stylish and sophisticated urban looks to strait out ghetto style clothing, such as their famed “Dead Serious” Skeleton Hoodie, as worn by rapper Kanye West.

The company was originally founded in 1999 when Jonas Bevacqua and Robert Wright decided to create something fresh and new that would appeal to people from all walks of life, especially to those within underground circles; their goal was to provoke people to think about the clothes they were wearing as well as change the way people thought or looked at clothing in general.

The two met while creating hip-hop music together in Orange County, California, a.k.a. the heart of the skate community. It was there that they decided to establish a brand that would appeal to the hip-hop community as well as promote the underground skate culture, bridging the gap between both worlds and forcing the entire fashion industry to take notice.  They have since become an unstoppable force with in Urban, Hip Hop and Skater cultures, bringing a sleek and sophisticated new look to the masses.  Their products have become so popular that celebrities all over the world, including the likes of Lupe Fiasco and Kanye West, have been seen wearing L-R-G clothes.

L-R-G attributes its success as the result of listening to their passions rather than their pockets, they are very passionate about their designs and continue to astound the fashion world with new looks and styles. They are also well known and respected for supporting the underground skate community as well as independent, underground and lesser- known artists such as Pete Rock, Bun B, Planet Asia, Living Legends and Raekwon, as well as many others, through the release of underground compilation albums.

Many people have become tired of the seeing the same old brands sponsoring every major athlete in every major sports event from synchronised swimming to professional football. Their advertising slogans are drummed into your head to the point where you can recite every word from heart, thus creating a manufactured perspective as to what’s cool and what’s not. L-R-G promotes individuality as well as creative and artistic expression in ways that many other brands do not, and have become a breath of fresh air within a stale and stagnant environment; as such they have a very loyal fan base of people who want to look different, be unique and free to express themselves in ways that commonplace brands do not allow. “It’s typical human nature… especially in our market. It’s like when you like a small indie band but then all of a sudden they get big and they have a video and you say “I don’t like them anymore, they’re too big”. Or how about the classic, “oh, I can’t wear it anymore, too many kids at school are wearing It.” and that’s very much the attitude of the average kid today” Jonas Bevacqua

In 2006, L-R-G launched their new women’s clothing line, Luxirie, which offers a whole new range of styles, clothes and accessories for young girls and women. They are famous for their signature items such as crystal-covered jeans and offer a huge number of unique and stylish products from tops, dresses, jeans, and skirts to hoodies, Leather Jackets and even champagne holders.

Both L-R-G and Luxirie offer a wide selection of clothes and accessories to cater to every taste, and have recently been featured on the cover of XPOZ Magazine. If you want to be seen in something uniquely new and different this year, L-R-G is a must. Their products are intricately designed with strict attention to detail and are made out of the highest quality fabrics available.

So I know what’s going to be on my Christmas list this year.

‘It’s passed just being music, it’s something that people grow with’, Jay Z

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

“It’s passed just being music; it’s something that people grow with”
JAY-Z
How can one man who grew up in the mean streets of Brooklyn become one of the most influential figures of the 21st century? How can one man become one of the wealthiest people in the world in just a few years? His name has become synonymous with Hip-Hop, and his artistic ability is only matched by his business accruement. From drug dealer to entrepreneur, Jay-Z has become one of the leading founders of the Hip-Hop movement, working alongside artists such as Biggie Smalls, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kanye West, Timbaland and Nas.
From starting out by selling albums from the boot of his car, Jay-Z has become one of the biggest selling rappers of all time, with sales of over 26 million albums worldwide. In 1995, alongside co-founder Damon Dash, he released his own urban clothing line under the name Rocawear, offering stylish and sophisticated products ranging from clothes and accessories for men, women and children, to eyewear, watches, headgear, footwear,  belts, handbags and jewellery.
In a 2008 interview, when asked as to how the conception of Rockawear came about, Jay-Z responded: “It’s really an extension of being creative, right? It’s part of the whole culture, right?  When you see a Mary J. Blige, you don’t just see the music. You see the music, the fashion, the growth, the evolution - everything is part of it”
Jay-Z realized that his ability to create culture extended far beyond the realm of music, and began to see the importance of fashion within the music industry. During his performances, he noticed that fans in the audience were wearing the same clothes as he was.
“I was wearing this brand called Iceberg, and I would go to the shows. When I went to the show, the whole crowd had on Iceberg. The entire crowd was wearing Iceberg. So I went to Iceberg and said, “Guys, you guys should really partner with me some stuff, because I think I’m starting a little movement out there with the clothing.”
Rather than make money for other companies, Jay-Z decided that it would be more lucrative to create his own clothing line. Rocawear initially started out with just three sewing machines; however after some help and advice from Def Jam’s Russell Simmons, who had also started his own clothing line under the name Phat Farm, Rocawear quickly grew into one of the largest fashion labels in the world, with annual sales of over $700 Million dollars worldwide.
In 2007 Jay-Z sold his rights to the Rocawear label for $204 million, however has stated that he will retain his stake in the company and will continue to oversee the marketing, licensing and product development. In the same year R&B superstar Ciara signed to be the new face of Rocawear, stating publicly that she thinks that “The clothes are so cute”.
Originally starting out as a men’s clothing brand, Rocawear has become one of the largest urban labels in the world and is worn by millions of people across the planet. Rocawear has become the brand of choice for many people from all walks of life, combining intricate patterns with quality fabrics and original designs, with rigorous attention to detail. They offer unique styles and exclusive urban designs for men, women and children, with products ranging from T-shirts, Jackets, Jeans and Shirts to Dresses, to Lingerie, Jewellery and Accessories; they even offer baby clothes, perfumes and colognes. A number of celebrities have also been spotted wearing Rocawear including Naomi Campbell, Chris Brown, Victoria Beckham, Cassie, Rihanna, Ciara and many more.

Over the last two and a half decades, he has pursued graffiti with the last seven or eight being the most fruitful. As a writer, Aroe strived to make a name for himself in most of the key areas in the UK.
